Wheelchair Rugby

Wheelchair Rugby

A group playing wheelchair rugby.

A beginner-friendly wheelchair rugby program at Abilities Centre offered in partnership with Wheelchair Rugby Canada.

Fast. Inclusive. Free.

Wheelchair Rugby is a Paralympic sport invented in Canada, and Abilities Centre is proud to offer a beginner-friendly introduction to the game in partnership with Wheelchair Rugby Canada. This high-quality, nationally recognized program is open to athletes of any gender and ability.

An inclusive, high-energy attack-and-evasion sport, Wheelchair Rugby challenges participants to carry the ball across the opposing team’s try line to score. The game includes chair-to-chair contact, making it a dynamic and physically engaging experience for participants who enjoy competitive play in a safe, structured environment.

Participants will learn the fundamentals, rules, and structure of Wheelchair Rugby, develop key skills including ball handling, passing, chair control, and spatial awareness, and build confidence, teamwork, and communication alongside a supportive group of peers. No previous experience is required, and adaptations are provided as needed.

Who is wheelchair rugby for?

Anyone who wants to try an exciting Paralympic sport in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment. Open to all ages and abilities. This program is free to participate.
