Whether you are marking a birthday, an anniversary, a retirement, or a life well lived, a tribute gift tells a story. It says that the person you are honouring is someone whose memory or presence deserves to be felt in the world in a meaningful way.
What is a tribute gift?
A tribute gift is a donation made to Abilities Centre in honour of or in memory of someone special. It is a thoughtful alternative to a traditional gift and a powerful way to celebrate the people who matter most to you. Tribute gifts can be made for any occasion, including:

About This Program
There is no minimum gift amount for a tribute donation. Every contribution, at any level, makes a genuine difference to the programs and participants of Abilities Centre.
In memory of
Losing someone you love is one of life’s most profound experiences. A memorial gift to Abilities Centre is a way to carry their spirit forward in the world, supporting a community where people of all abilities are welcomed, included, and empowered to reach their full potential.
If you are organizing a memorial fund or would like to discuss a larger tribute initiative in honour of a loved one, our team would be honoured to speak with you and help create something meaningful.

Celebrating someone who has made a difference in your life? A tribute gift in their honour is a way to extend that impact outward, connecting the values they have shown you to the lives of people in our community who benefit from Abilities Centre’s programs every day.
Where your gift goes
Tribute gifts to Abilities Centre support the full range of programs and services we provide to people of all ages and abilities across Durham Region and beyond, including sport and recreation, therapeutic recreation, employment services, arts and life skills programming, post-rehabilitation programs, and research and education initiatives.
You may direct your tribute gift to a specific program or area of the organization, or designate it to our area of greatest need, allowing us to put your gift to work where it can make the most immediate difference.
How it works
Step 1: Make your gift.
Visit our online donation page and indicate that your gift is a tribute donation. You will have the option to share the name of the person you are honouring and the occasion, as well as your own contact information.
Step 2: We notify your honouree.
Once your gift is received, Abilities Centre will send a notification to the person you are honouring, or to their family in the case of a memorial gift, letting them know that a donation has been made in their name. The amount of your gift is kept confidential.
Step 3: You receive a tax receipt.
As a registered charitable organization, Abilities Centre will issue a tax receipt to you for the full value of your donation.
A note of recognition
With your permission, Abilities Centre is pleased to acknowledge tribute gifts in our annual Impact Report and donor recognition materials. If you would prefer your gift to remain anonymous, simply let us know when you make your donation and we will honour that request fully.
